Breakthrough with qualified signatures at the workstation for BKK Gesundheit
The first technical realisation of qualified signatures on Citrix Thin Clients worldwide combines benefits of centrally administered workstations with legally compliant electronic release processes
Düsseldorf (Germany), July 13, 2011 - BKK Gesundheit, Germany’s biggest company health insurance fund, and AuthentiDate, specialist for signature and time stamp solutions as well as secure eHealth processes have made a high-performance solution available at BKK Gesundheit for the creation of qualified signatures through Thin-Clients.
The AuthentiDate signature software “eSign Client” was made available centrally for this purpose in the terminal server solution based on Citrix XenApp in the BKK computer center. The employees of BKK Gesundheit can therefore create qualified signatures at their workstations irrespective of the location and without installations which require a high level of administration.
The employees of BKK Gesundheit primarily use Thin-Clients and in just a few cases regular workstation computers and notebooks. From there they access their respective applications, which are made available for them centrally on the terminal servers, via a Remote Desktop. In order to guarantee the necessary performance and availability of the IT applications for the around 2,000 employees at the various locations of BKK Gesundheit the BKK operates a multitude of terminal servers based on Citrix XenApp in their centralized computer center.

The employees use the centrally integrated, clustered signature application as an additional function in their normal user interface. Merely the card readers are installed at the workstations step-by-step for the input of the signature card und PIN number. The aim is to equip all just under 2,000 employees of BKK Gesundheit with signature cards. This way all employees will then be able to depict legally compliant, electronic release processes at the local workstation through qualified signatures.
The digitalization of the business processes is one of the central initiatives of the federal government for reducing costs and improving efficiency in the health system. This project of BKK Gesundheit substantially supports these stipulations and therefore makes a decisive contribution to the optimization and reduction of costs in the administration sector.
